Bat Rescue

While having my dinner in the Cock and Pullet pub one evening last week, some friends bought in a pipistrelle bat in an egg box. It had come down the chimney in a cloud of soot and was crawling across the living room floor at a house in Monyash. The bat seemed in very good condition and quite lively as it attempted to escape from the box a couple of times. We took it back to the house and at the gable end there were several bat droppings on the pavement. There were gaps in the mortar on the roof verge and it was clear that bats were roosting up there somewhere. I put the bat on to the wall and it set off climbing upwards; it was not until he was about 2ft from the apex that he stopped for a rest. Hopefully he is now back in the roost and does not end up down the chimney again!
