Summer is here! We look forward to beautiful weather for both the Fell Race evening and Sheldon Day itself. Both events are hard work but enjoyable too and one way of sharing and showing what a wonderful village Sheldon is, but importantly they provide crucial income to help maintain our lovely Church, our Village Hall and the Playing Field.
If you can spare a couple of hours to help put up the bunting ready for the Fell Race you will be most welcome. The organisation for the Fell Race is well in hand – Phil will be contacting helpers and hopefully we shall have a large crowd of supporters for what is always a very enjoyable evening. The runners need your support so we hope as many of us as possible will cheer them on.
Sheldon Day should be better than ever this year – we hear there will be a magician with a rabbit, face painting, the brass band and this year the vintage Austin Car Club is coming to swell the ranks of tractors and engines. All the usual sideshows and attractions will also be here. We have so much going on this year that any help you can give will be very welcome – please let Andrew know. One other plea – please sell as many raffle tickets as you can – we have some great prizes. Tickets are available from Angie who is organising it this year; you could win that helicopter flight!
We must send our belated, but very best wishes to Adrienne and Noel who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 5th; congratulations to you both!
We also send our very best wishes to John L-C who has been in hospital. We wish you a speedy recovery John and are thinking of you.
We expect everyone knows that Pauline, our milk lady, has now departed these shores to live in Southern Ireland. Will life be the same here without her breezy way, her milk float and her determined efforts to deliver our milk in sometimes atrocious weather? Good Luck Pauline and welcome to Charlene, our new milk girl.
The weather for the Whitsun Cream Teas was not the best – more cloud and showers than sunny intervals. But a cheerful welcome met those who came and the total raised of £160 was a credit to the hard work of the organisers and helpers. Well done to all. The next Cream Tea is on Bank Holiday Sunday 24th August.
William and Alec have been taking part in the Buxton Music Festival and did very well. William gained first place in the piano trio competition and Alec gained a first in the under 11’s brass section playing the trumpet. Congratulations to them both – a great achievement from two talented boys.
A note of caution now as we have a warning from Ashford folk. A woman has been going round many local villages claiming to be collecting money for ‘Help the Heroes’. The money is definitely not going to this worthy charity.
