We are all set for another exciting Sheldon Day this year on Saturday July 22nd at 1.00pm.
Down the main village street we have Cakes, jams and other produce (get there quick because they all go early in the afternoon), Cream Teas in the Village Hall, Splat-the-rat and other fun games as well as the usual stalls like plants, books and bric-brac. Below the pub we’ve got the ever-popular Chocolate Tombola and Bottle Darts, as well as the Grand Raffle and many other stalls. Don’t forget the get your tennis balls for the Great Ball Run at 4.30pm, when 300 balls are released down the village street.
We are welcoming back The Ashbourne Brass Band who will be accompanying the afternoon outside the pub, and also the very popular Magic Show at 2.45pm.
There will be a flower show in the church and a delicious BBQ and hog roast in the main street, as well as ice creams on sale.
The poultry show, produce tent and dog show will be on the playing field again, along with more vintage cars and tractors than ever before. There is also a mini-farm again, where we are hoping to have a few more exciting and different animals this year – come and see what we’ve got! The Egg Throwing competition (quickly becoming the most popular event of all…) will also be happening in the main area of the field. And don’t forget the (all new!) Coconut Shy and the Welly Wanging in the field.
This year, thanks to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, we are also hoping to have our first family Bee Walk around the village, with an expert from the Pollinating the Peak project. We will be trying to count how many of our 24 species of native bumblebee we can find in one afternoon! There will be a Bumblebee stall where you can find out when the walks are happening during the afternoon.
That’s just some of it! So come along on July 22nd at 1.00pm
Parking is at the top of the village near the bus stop; please access the village from the top (west) end of the main street.
The Fell Race is on Thursday 20th July starting at 7.30pm.
Please note: Due to recent changes in legislation from DEFRA there will not be a poultry show this year.
There are plenty of opportunities to support Sheldon Day through sponsorship, every little bit helps us raise more from the day, and everything goes back into the community in some way. Anyone interested in sponsoring, please get in touch with Andrew Joly (Tel: 07768 892 865).
